Udhay Shankar N is one of the pioneers in the online scene in India. He has been a well-known voice in online circles since the early 90s, having run the first and only multi-line BBS in Bangalore, Infomart; and has been active on several of the other BBSes around the country. He has also written extensively about the internet and related technologies in various technical and general journals, and is a noted speaker at various industry events. He currently works with the Market Analytics Solutions group at Symphony Services, serving as the sole interface between the sales team in the US and the delivery teams in India. He has also played senior roles within the Yahoo! R&D operations in Bangalore; and Iponics, an incubator VC firm based in Bangalore, India, where he worked with various early-stage companies to develop their product, strategy and marketing roadmaps. Prior to this, he was part of the core team at Unimobile, helping to launch and popularise the world's first consumer-oriented wireless internet product. He ran the online PR program for Unimobile, interfacing with media, analysts and other online opinion leaders. He also built and ran the consumer acquisition team at Unimobile and led it to over a million consumers. He has been a consultant of note in the past, having founded the internet strategy consultancy Arachnis, and also had established the internet practice of Data-Core Systems (India). He was also part of the team that launched the SIFY family of portals in 1998. As Regional Manager of the first web development firm in Bangalore, India in 1995-96, he interfaced between clients and the development team, and explained the advantages of the web to various industry leaders. As Marketing Chief at Innovative Computer Labs, he helped to pioneer the concepts of architectural CADD and multimedia consulting. Many prominent architectural consultancies were among his clients. He has been a leader in the online community scene in India since 1993. He is a founder member of the Linux Users Group in Bangalore and is the India co-ordinator of the Cypherpunks cryptography SIG.
